Workshop on Unfair Commercial Practices in relation to green claims

Date: 07/05/2014

The Commission hosted a workshop on 7 May on the application of Directive 2005/29/EC on unfair commercial practices.

This was the fourth workshop organised following the adoption of the Communicationpdf(90 kB) Choose translations of the previous link  and the Reportpdf(213 kB) Choose translations of the previous link  on the application of the UCPD, with a view to step-up the enforcement of the Directive.

The meeting was dedicated to discussing the application of the Directive in the area of environmental claims and touched upon various issues, i.a., the clarity, accuracy and scientific substantiation of green claims, while also reflecting on the role of self-regulatory organisations and related work carried out by other Commission services, like the Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on environmental claims.

Participants included national enforcement authorities of Member States and EEA countries and speakers from self-regulatory bodies, consumer associations and the industry.
