Workshop on Unfair Commercial Practices

The Commission hosted a workshop on 28 May on the application of the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive 2005/29/EC.

They provide a first assessment of the application of the Directive in the Member States as well as an outline of the actions needed to maximize its benefits.

The morning session (agenda pdf (99 kB)) was dedicated to the presentation and discussion of the Commission's findings, including the results of the Study on the application of the Directive in the areas of financial services and immovable property (studypdf(3 MB) + country reportspdf(4 MB)). Participants included national enforcement authorities of Member States and EEA countries, European Consumer Centres, consumer associations and various stakeholders including business federations and academics.

The restricted afternoon session for the Member States' authorities focused on key issues related to the enforcement of the Directive in the online sector, in particular related to social networks and online review tools.
