(24 and 25 October 2013 in Brussels)

The aim of the Work Forum is to bring together representatives of the structures for governance of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD)[1], namely Focal Points, Coordination Mechanisms and Monitoring Mechanisms across the Member States of the European Union (EU) as well as the EU, along with key actors from the civil society and representative organisations of persons with disabilities.

Organised by the European Commission since 2010, the Work Forum is a great opportunity to share experiences in order to find solutions to similar questions that Member States and the EU face in the implementation of the UNCRPD. It aims also at creating a coherent and coordinated approach that involves mutual learning and the exchange of good practices.

This year, the Work Forum will continue to deal with issues related to the implementation, promotion, protection and monitoring of the UN CRPD, focusing on the following sub-themes:

  1. Reporting to and examination by the UNCRPD Committee:
    • Link between the EU's and Member States' competences under the UNCRPD: addressing areas of shared competences in the reporting and the examination;
    • Dealing with the observations and conclusions of the UNCRPD Committee.
  2. Protection of the rights of persons with disabilities:
    • The individual communications procedure under the Optional Protocol to the UNCRPD;
    • The role of art. 33.2 frameworks;
    • The role of DPOs;
  3. Complementarity and cooperation between the EU-level Framework and frameworks established by the EU Member States to promote, protect and monitor the UNCRPD (art.33.2).

Deadline: 14 October 2013, midnight Brussels time

Please note that the application form must be completed preferably in English, but French will be accepted. Fields followed by * are mandatory.
