Many Roma people in Europe face discrimination and social exclusion in their daily lives. They are marginalised and live in very poor socio-economic conditions.
The European Platform for Roma Inclusion
The European Platform for Roma inclusion (or European Roma Platform) was created to support policy developments for Roma integration and stimulate exchanges and coordination among Member States, international organisations and Roma civil society.
Roma integration: an EU Framework for national strategies
In order to make a tangible difference to the lives of Roma people, the European Commission has proposed an EU Framework for national Roma integration strategies. This initiative invites Member States to present national Roma integration strategies to the Commission by the end of December 2011. In May and June 2011, Member States agreed to commit to this process.
The 6th Platform meeting
This meeting was the first meeting of the European Roma Platform following its recent reform aimed at strengthening its role and functioning. It provided a unique opportunity for discussing the EU Framework for national Roma integration strategies before Member States are expected to present their strategies to the Commission.
The meeting combined workshops and plenary sessions to provide all stakeholders - Member States, EU institutions, international organisations and civil society organisations - with adequate space for exchanges and joint reflection.
