The Assises de la Justice - a forum on EU justice policies - sought to generate ideas which would contribute directly to shaping the European Union's justice policy over the coming years. The Commission asked for contributions from anyone with an interest in the issues which were discussed during the conference, and more broadly on the future justice policy of the European Union.
To stimulate the debate , five discussion papers were made available. These papers concern
The purpose of the discussion papers was to prepare the debate in the Assises de la justice event and to reflect on the justice policy of the European Union.
Contributions could also address the other topics under discussion, notably 'effective justice systems in the EU' and 'independence of justice', in particular in light of the Commission's EU Justice Scoreboard, a tool to promote effective justice and growth'.
Preliminary contributions submitted by Monday 11 November fed the debate during the Assises de la justice conference. Further to the event, the Commission received many other contributions. All contributions are available online.
