The European Commission supports Member States and civil society in combatting discrimination through the PROGRESS programme :
- An annual call for proposals 'Support to national activities aiming at combatting discrimination and promoting equality' allows national authorities in charge of equality and non-discrimination to implement antidiscrimination projects for different target groups, including age.
- The Commission supports financially civil society organisations who are promoting the rights of persons related to age like AGE Platform Europe.
For the 2014-2020 period the Commission has proposed that the Antidiscrimination and diversity strand of the Progress programme will be integrated in the Programme Rights and Citizenship to be implemented by DG Justice. The Commission proposals for the 2014-2020 period and the respective budget are currently under negotiation with the Council and the European Parliament.
