new Data protection rules for the digital ageThe Commission's proposals will help business by:
> Fostering the digital economy by building customer trust in digital services such as e-commerce and cloud computing;
> Harmonising data protection rules at EU level through a regulation which establishes one single law applicable to any business across the EU. This would reduce administrative costs by almost €2.3 billion per year;
> Creating a one-stop-shop for enforcement. Organisations processing personal data will now only have to deal with one single data protection authority, no matter how many EU countries they conduct business in;
> Simplifying the regulatory environment by cutting red tape and bureaucratic requirements which impose unnecessary costs on businesses;
> Enhancing cooperation between European data protection authorities ensuring consistent application of rules across the EU;
