Lack of trust
hurts business

According to a recent survey, 70% of Europeans are worried that their personal data held by companies online may be used for a purpose other than that for which it was collected.

Simpler, clearer and stronger privacy rules as proposed by the Commission will help build individuals' trust in online businesses.

European businesses offering high data protection standards will enjoy competitive advantage on a global scale.

This will attract more investment and make the EU a more attractive place to do business, taking full advantage of the Internal Market's potential for stimulating the digital economy.
