When is this solution for you?
You work in a national, regional or local authority, and you need information from an authority in another Member State.
What can we offer you?
We can provide you with a multilingual online tool which facilitates the exchange of information between public administrations across Europe involved in the practical implementation of EU Law.
IMI allows you to:
- Identify counterparts in another EU country
- Ask each other questions
- Overcome language barriers through pre-translated sets of questions & answers and forms
- Notify each other of developments
- Store and share information that is secure and data-protection friendly
IMI is accessible online through the IMI website. No specific software is required.
The IMI system is accessible to registered users only.

Who is already using this solution?
IMI connects around 13 000 users in more than 7 000 public authorities, at European, national, regional and local level.
Key facts and figures
IMI currently supports 15 administrative procedures relating to nine different policy areas under the Internal market Directive. More are to come.
IMI can now also be used for the exchange of information in the area of public procurement.
Over 25 000 requests for information have been exchanged between authorities so far.
More than half of all requests are answered within 2 weeks.
80% of users find IMI user-friendly.
