EGOV 2013 – ISA expert delivers opening keynote speech
At the IFIP e-government conference in Koblenz today, Vassilios Peristeras, ISA expert on Semantic interoperability, will deliver the opening keynote speech.
The EU Digital Agenda identifies semantic interoperability problems as a major obstacle in the execution of cross-border public services. ISA activities are therefore dedicated to improving semantic interoperability and metadata standardisation, increasing the visibility of already available semantic standards and facilitating agreements on basic information models.
With the support of ISA a number of activities are namely ongoing in the area of the Asset Description Metadata Schema, the Core Vocabularies and the DCAT Application Profile. Dr. Peristeras will present the work currently done in this area by the European Commission. Moreover, he will show cases of practical implementation of semantic technologies by the public sector in Europe.
Dr. Peristeras works as Programme Manager in the European Commission’s ISA Unit. He also teaches at universities, and is elected Assistant Professor at the International Hellenic University in Thessaloniki, Greece. He has worked as eGovernment researcher and consultant in international, public and private organisations in several countries and has initiated and coordinated several international R&D projects. His interests include eGovernment, semantic technologies, open and linked data, and interoperability. He has published over 100 papers in scientific journals/conferences and has served as editor, program committee member and reviewer in more than 60 journals, books, conferences and workshops.
