Call for Applications for Irish-language translators

The Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) of the European Commission is seeking to recruit translators on the basis of temporary contracts of a maximum duration of three years.

Place of employment: Brussels.

Successful applicants will be required to translate documents into Irish from English and a second official EU language.

For details of the conditions of employment, candidates are advised to consult the Staff Regulations of Officials of the European Union and the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants of the European Union:

Candidates must

  • be nationals of an EU Member State;
  • be university graduates, having completed a first degree of at least three years' duration;
  • have a perfect command of Irish, an excellent knowledge of English and a very sound knowledge of a further EU official language;
  • be prepared to relocate to Brussels if they are recruited.

Documented experience in translation, language-related qualifications or translation-related qualifications would all be assets. After screening the CVs submitted, the selection board will invite the most suitable applicants to sit the written selection tests (Tests A and B) scheduled for January 2015 in Dublin and, if appropriate, in Brussels. Candidates who obtain the pass mark in Tests A and B, will be invited to sit the oral test (Test C) scheduled for March 2015.
