Conference on reviewing Market Abuse regime - 12.11.2008, Brussels

The Commission (DG Internal Market and Services) organised a conference on the Market Abuse Directive (MAD) in Brussels on 12 November 2008. The conference brought together senior policy makers, regulators, industry experts and academia to discuss the review of MAD.

The hearing was opened by David Wright, Deputy-Director General of DG Internal Market and Services and was followed by speeches of:

• Ms. Pervenche Berès MEP, Chairperson of ECON Committee
• Kurt Pribil, Executive Director of the Financial Markets Authority in Austria (FMA), the Chair of CESR-Pol
• Carmine Di Noia, Deputy Director General and Head of Capital Markets and Listed Companies, Assonime, member of European Securities Markets Expert Group (ESME)

Four panels have discussed debate the different topics:

• scope of application of the Market Abuse Directive
• disclosure of inside information, inside dealing
• market manipulation
• sanctions for market abuse
