Reporting economic crime online (RECOL)

Reporting Economic Crime Online (RECOL) is a Canadian initiative that involves an integrated partnership between International, Federal and Provincial Law Enforcement agencies, as well as with other State agencies and private commercial organizations. Since October 2003, citizens who become victims of economic crime (in particular credit card fraud and identity theft) in Canada or the U.S.A. can file a complaint on-line. When filing the complaint, the victim can immediately send it to some or all the agencies and bodies that might need to know about it. This innovative means of reporting e.g. credit card fraud, accelerates the access of police services to relevant information and facilitates the sharing of information with other agencies and the private sector (e.g. credit card companies, banks, credit reference agencies) , subject to the prior consent by the complainant.
