Towards an increased consumer protection

Retail financial services play a major role in the everyday life of European Union citizens. In spite of the significant progress that has been made in recent years, both in terms of consumer protection and of integration, the markets however remain fragmented, and further efforts are needed before retail financial services can be bought and sold across European Union borders without hindrance.
