| Objective of the consultation |
| The European Commission has launched a wide-ranging public
consultation on hedge funds, which will play an important role in
informing the ongoing reflections at European and international level
on whether there is a need to reassess the appropriateness of existing
approaches to the regulation and supervision of this sector. |

desire to proceed quickly with preparation of an appropriate
regulatory initiative. The consultation needs to be completed swiftly
in order to expedite this process. |
