European Commission conference on international developments in Accounting and Auditing, 8 February 2010

The European Commission hosted a one-day conference on international developments in Accounting and Auditing on the 8th of February 2010. The conference was aimed at policy makers, regulators and businesses.

The morning session focused on accounting issues. The first panel discussed national experiences in implementing the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). The second panel discussed the progress made towards the adoption of IFRS.

The afternoon session covered audit issues. It considered the legal, regulatory and practical challenges encountered in moving towards global standards on auditing. It also discussed audit regulation topics such as practical questions on setting up an independent public oversight for the audit profession in Europe and in non-EU countries, and the need to further strengthen international co-operation.
