Background
The Commission is participating in a number of initiatives aiming at making communications networks like the Internet safer from criminal activity.
It adopted on 26.1.2001 a Communication to the Council and the European Parliament (COM(2000)890) entitled
PDF versions: DA DE EL EN ES FI FR IT NL PT SV
The European Commission invited comments from all interested parties on the issues addressed in this Communication by 23 March 2001.
The comments received are published here.
The European Commission organised a public hearing of interested parties on the issues addressed in the Communication on 7 March 2001. Here is a report on this event.

The Commission is also participating in the meetings of the G8 Subgroup on high-tech crime and in the Committee of Experts on Crime in Cyber-Space (PC-CY) of the Council of Europe which is currently working on a draft Convention on cybercrime
