Commission proposal for a Council framework decision on attacks against information systems - 19 April 2002

Background

 

The Commission is participating in a number of initiatives aiming at making communications networks like the Internet safer from criminal activity.

 

It adopted on 26.1.2001 a Communication to the Council and the European Parliament   (COM(2000)890) entitled

Creating a Safer Information Society by Improving the Security of Information Infrastructures and Combating Computer-related Crime (html)

The European Commission invited comments from all interested parties on the issues addressed in this Communication by 23 March 2001.

Public Hearing

The European Commission organised a public hearing of interested parties on the issues addressed in the Communication on 7 March 2001.  Here is a report on this event.

The Internet Action Plan aims at identifying and acting against harmful and illegal content.

A follow-on study has been completed, November 2000,  to examine ways of improving transnational cooperation between interested parties in industry and law enforcement in order to combat transnational crime with the necessary rapidity.
