EU FORUM ON CYBERCRIME

Plenary session, Brussels, 27 November 2001

"Retention of traffic data"

On 27 November 2001, a plenary session took place in Brussels of the EU Forum on Cybercrime, organised by the European Commission. The main topic for discussion was retention of traffic data, on which the European Commission had prepared an  informal discussion paper.

The main participants were:

  • Network operators and service providers (including telecommunications companies, mobile operators and Internet service providers),
  • Hardware manufacturers,
  • Content providers,
  • Law enforcement agencies,
  • Data protection authorities,
  • Justice and Home Affairs ministries,
  • Ministries dealing with information society issues,
  • Civil liberties organisations,
  • Consumer protection organisations,
  • Other relevant organisations.

The Commission intends to provide a report of this meeting in the near future.

The Commission has also set up a dedicated web-site for the EU Cybecrime Forum which provides access to discussion papers and on-line discussion groups. The provisional address is http://cybercrime-forum.jrc.it/
