Unit E4 - Access to Information

What we do

The activities of the Unit E4 are focused towards the objective of making digital content accessible to all through policies that would allow better access, use and preservation of digital content.

It implements the Community strategy on Public Sector Information (PSI), in particular the transposition of Directive 2003/98/EC for the re-use of PSI.

The Digital Libraries Initiative is another field of Unit's activity. The unit implements a Community policy on digitisation, on line accessibility and digital preservation with a view to making European information resources (books, historical records, archive films etc.) easier and more interesting to use in an online environment.

It is charged with the analysis of the information market with a special view to the impact of emerging information and media technologies.

The unit follows the development of policy and regulatory issues affecting digital content, in particular intellectual property rights (copyrights, database protection, Digital Rights Management). It acts as a contact point for the whole of INFSO on intellectual property matters.
