Public Sector Information :: Facilitating Re-use :: LAPSI Network

LAPSI Network

LAPSI, is a Thematic Network, funded by the CIP-ICT PSP programme, to build a platform for high-level policy discussions and strategic action on all legal issues related to the access and the re-use of Public Sector Information
The main objective of the LAPSI project is to become a European thematic network to discuss the legal issues related to the access and re-use of PSI in Europe.

It aims to become an important point of reference for high-level policy discussions and strategic action on all the most important and pressing legal issues related to the access and the re-use of the PSI in the digital environment.

The LAPSI network, lead by the Politecnico de Torino, has as members of its network almost all of the most important academics in Europe debating these issues, for example: the Institute for Information Law of the University of Amsterdam (IViR) as well as the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property (MIP) are members of the network, which have the capacity and prestige to disseminate their findings to a high level political audience.
They intend to address many legal issues surrounding PSI such as :

  • Implementation and deployment related issues related to PSI re-use; PSI and Cultural Content;
  • Intellectual Property and Competition Law Aspects of PSI;
  • Privacy Aspects of PSI between Private and Public law;
  • And/or Constitutional, Human Rights and Environmental Perspectives and PSI

All these topics are relevant for our future work related to the review of the Directive in 2012.
The intended project duration is 30 months. The network had its kick off meeting on the 25th March 2010 in Turin . Further information can be found at:  http://www.lapsi-project.eu/
