Awareness Raising
The raise of a ubiquitous information society creates a greater dependence towards electronic networks and information systems. Still users should have a feeling of justified confidence when interacting in the information society. This confidence can only be achieved if all the stakeholders directly or indirectly involved in building the information society are aware of their role and of their specific responsibility they should endorse.
In this context, the NIS Strategy calls for a structured multi-stakeholder debate on how best to exploit existing tools and regulatory instruments to attain an appropriate societal balance between security and the protection of fundamental rights, including privacy.
As a first step, a high level seminar reflecting on ways to raise the security awareness and strengthen trust of end-users in the use of electronic networks and information systems was organised in Brussels on December 7, 2007.
