None

There are currently no Certification Service Providers established in Malta delivering qualified certificates to the public. Qualified digital certificates, will however be rolled out to all Citizens on the new Electronic Identity Card. The e-ID Card will replace the mandatory Identity Card and a national roll-out will take place by 2011. The Identity Card is issued by the Government of Malta.

The associated Certification Services will be provided by the Malta Information Technology Agency, which falls under the responsibility of the Ministry for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications.

The Ministry for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications is responsible for drawing up the National Identity Management Strategy including electronic identity (e-ID). The Level 2 and Level 3 authentication mechanism of the electronic identity is based on PKI digital certificates. The Identity Management Office, currently within the Ministry for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications, is thus responsible for the supervision of the deployment of the necessary infrastructure within the Public Sector.
