Spectrum for wireless events

Toward a long term approach to radio spectrum for wireless microphones and media productions

Wireless microphones and similar applications represent a high social, cultural and economic value in Europe. Such technologies, commonly summarised as PMSE ("programme-making and special events"), are essential contributors to the production of the rich media content that will be critical to the success of the high speed broadband services to be delivered over fibre networks.

EU Commission's Communication on "Transforming the digital dividend into social benefits and economic growth" (COM 2009/586) has identified the use of spectrum by wireless microphones and PMSE applications as an activity clearly affected by the digital dividend policy and requiring further attention at EU level. As a first step towards the objective of improved spectrum coordination for the benefit of PMSE users, the Commission organised a stakeholder workshop to encourage a holistic and all-encompassing approach.

The EU Workshop on "A long term approach to radio spectrum for PMSEs in Europe", took place on October 26, 2010 in Brussels. It was attended by representatives from the PMSE sectors who engaged in a common reflection on EU-level cooperation regarding spectrum for PMSEs. The debates have confirmed the willingness of stakeholders to cooperate to find harmonised solutions where appropriate.

Please consult the summary report of the workshop results, as well as the Agenda and the Presentations and meeting documents.
