Four Steps to yourname.eu
-
Choose a name
Your domain name should still be free. Some domain names are blocked, e.g. geographical or geopolitical concepts or names reserved for EU governments. Domain names must meet a number of technical requirements, e.g. minimum of two characters among the letters a to z, the numbers 0 to 9 or the hyphen “-“.
-
Choose an accredited .eu registrar and submit your application to the registrar
.eu domain names can only be registered by accredited registrars; a direct registration with EURid is not possible. During the registration process, registrars ask end users for various contact and technical information and keep records of the contact information and submit the technical information to the central directory, EURid. End users are also required to enter a registration contract with the registrar, which sets out the terms under which registrations are accepted and maintained
Please note that some registrars have subscribed to additional consumer-friendly standards laid down in a Code of Conduct . For a list of accredited Registrars, please go to EURid website.
-
The registrar sends in your application TO EURid.
EURid then inserts this information into a centralised database and enables it to be placed in internet zone files so that domain names can be found around the world via the web and e-mail.
-
You will receive a notification of the activation of your .eu domain name
Detailed instructions can be found on EURid website.
How much will it cost?
The price you pay for the registration of a .eu domain name will depend on
which accredited registrar you choose. On EURid's website, more than 900 registrars who compete with each other to register names are listed. Customers
can therefore shop around to find the best deal on price, quality, and services
offered. Registering domain names under .eu should not be expensive. The
Registry operates under the cost recovery principle. The big success of the .eu
has enabled the Registry to lower the registration fee to €4 per registered
domain name. Registrars will add their profit margin, which should reflect the
level and quality of the service they provide. In any case, end users are
advised to check carefully the offers of the registrars, because prices and
services may differ substantially.
