Mobile Services and Applications’ Concertation Meeting

Brussels, 27th February, 2003

The European Commission (DG Information Society) is organising the first Concertation Meeting for the mobile services and applications projects launched after Call 7bis and Call 8 Cross Programme Action 14 on 27 February 2003.

The Concertation Meeting will be followed by an Information Day on "Applications and Services for the Mobile User and Worker" to be held in Brussels (venue: Charlemagne Building, rue de la Loi 170, B-1040) on 28 February 2003.

The Information Day, whose theme is "Shaping the Future" is intended to provide a forum where the key challenges in the area of mobile services and applications will be highlighted by 3 invited speakers representing the industry at large (Open Mobile Alliance), an equipment manufacturer and a local government representative (State of Bremen, Germany). This will be followed by a general presentation of the FP6 instruments and a more focused presentation of the strategic objective "Applications and Services for the Mobile User and Worker" in the context of the recently launched 6th Framework Programme and the IST Work Programme 2003-2004.

General information on proposal preparation and evaluation procedures will be presented by the Commission in preparation for the forthcoming FP6 second call. One of the objectives covered in the second call is "applications and services for the mobile user and worker" where the Commission intends to foster the emergence of innovative applications and services for the mobile user and worker and support the use and development of new work methods and collaborative work environment. These should be based on interoperable mobile, wireless technologies and on the convergence of fixed and mobile network infrastructures, enabling new business models, new ways of working, improved customer relations and government services in any context.
