European Commission EU eHealth in focus -
Overview of EU-funded running projects in the area of ICT for Ageing Well
While digital technologies can really help the elderly to maintain their independence there is a deficit in the availability of ICT products and ICT-enabled services. More research and development is needed, and in particular more use-centric research, and more real-life trials need to be deployed. Between 2008 and 2013, the EU and Member States, and the private sector will have invested more than €1 billion in research and innovation for ageing well: an expected €400 million in the EU's seventh research framework programme, some €600 million in the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme (a more market-oriented research programme), and so far more than €50 million on large scale pilot projects in the EU's ICT Policy Support Programme.
