Hack4Europe! - Europeana hackathon roadshow
7 - 11 June 2011 - London, Barcelona, Poznan, Stockholm
A "hackathon" is an event where programmers meet to do collaborative computer programming. Europeana will host hackathons in 4 European cities, stimulating the use of its cultural heritage metadata. Europeana holds metadata on over 16 million cultural heritage objects. Each hackathon will last one or two days and will bring together up to 30 developers. Hackers will be encouraged to try out their ideas for creative reuse of the Europeana content based on the Europeana Application Programming Interface (API) and Linked Open Data and build applications supporting innovation, economic growth and social inclusion in Europe. Best prototypes will be awarded prizes by Europeana during the hackathon days and presented by European Commissioner Neelie Kroes at the Digital Agenda Assembly on 16 -17 June in Brussels.
