Ministers agree on fishing catch limits for 2017
EU ministers have reached an agreement on fishing opportunities for 2017 in the Atlantic, North Sea and Black Sea, following discussions at the Agriculture and Fisheries Council on 12 and 13 December. Karmenu Vella, the EU Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, presented the Commission's proposals, which were the basis for the negotiations.
Commission launches call worth €1.5m to promote coastal and maritime tourism
The European Commission is making available €1.5 million to create nautical routes linking up maritime sites across Europe. The announcement was made by Karmenu Vella, Commissioner for Environment, Fisheries and Maritime Affairs, when opening the European Tourism Day conference in Brussels today.
The EU engages in the third round of negotiations to prevent unregulated fishing in the Arctic high seas
The European Union participated in the third round of international negotiations on measures to prevent unregulated fishing in the Arctic high seas. The meeting took place between 29 November and 1 December 2016 in Tórshavn on the Faroe Islands.

Come January, the Commission's department dealing with maritime affairs and fisheries will be better equipped to match the challenges and priorities of today's maritime economy.
Commission brings #FARMEDintheEU aquaculture campaign to Spain
Spanish authorities, producer organisations and research institutes are organising open door visits and conferences across Spain today to celebrate the annual "Día de la Acuicultura". This year, the European Commission joined in the celebrations, supporting the "Di sí a la acuicultura sostenible" ("Say yes to sustainable aquaculture") competition launched by the Observatorio Español de Acuicultura from Fundación Biodiversidad (Mapama).
