The Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting of July 2013 will take place in Brussels on 15th July 2013. It will be the first Council under the presidency of Mr Vigilijus Jukna, Lithuanian Minister of Agriculture.

The new European Maritime and Fisheries Fund is one step closer to adoption: in its vote on the Commission's proposal adopted on 10 July 2013, the PECH Committee of the European Parliament endorsed the Commission's call to ensure that the new European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) becomes the main financial instrument to achieve the ambitious reforms of the new Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) to ensure long-term environmental sustainability and to secure a competitive future for the fisheries sector.

Fisheries Ministers, at the meeting of the Council of 28 January, fully endorsed the ambitions of the Irish Presidency to reach a political agreement on the reform of the CFP before mid 2013.

The European Commission's 5th annual report on the implementation of the European Fisheries Fund (EFF) includes an analysis of how EFF programmes have contributed to their original objectives set out at the beginning of the 2007-2013 programming period. The analysis uses the results of the first four years to examine to what extent EFF measures have contributed to achieving the objectives of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).

On 1 January 2013, the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union passed from Cyprus to Ireland. Among other tasks, the Irish government is now coordinating the work of the Agriculture and Fisheries Council and will set the agenda regarding reform of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).
