European Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Karmenu Vella, and Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Volodymyr Kistion, opened today in Odessa a high-level stakeholder conference entitled “Conference on the blue economy of the Black Sea: Towards better integration”.

It is designed to improve the quality and relevance of skills to meet the need of a rapidly changing labour market and increase the understanding of skills and qualifications in the European labour market.

Commissioner Karmenu Vella is attending the 21st North Atlantic Fisheries Ministers Conference (NAFMC) in St Petersburg on 9th – 10th June. The theme of this year's conference is "Science and research to ensure the sustainability of marine ecosystems".

The Resumed Review Conference on the Agreement for the Implementation of the Provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 relating to the Conservation and Management of Straddling Fish Stocks and Highly Migratory Fish Stocks (UNFSA) finished last Friday after one week of intensive negotiations at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 23rd to 27th May.
