—The Baltic Sea is a hotbed for innovation and competitiveness, the Baltic Sea Region also features a strong tradition of transnational cooperation for working with and for a healthy Baltic Sea. In order to harness these unique characteristics, the Commission is now taking the development of the Baltic Blue Growth Agenda one step further.

Launching event: Workshop on integrated maritime policy and maritime spatial planning in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea
The European Commission will together with the Mediterranean Coastal Foundation (MEDCOAST) organise a workshop centred on maritime spatial planning and integrated maritime policy. It takes place on 20 September 2016 in Dalyan (Turkey).

—The European Commission is looking to turn emerging ocean energy technologies like tidal and wave power into "another European success story", replicating the spectacular uptake of offshore wind, Commissioner Karmenu Vella has said. The Commissioner was speaking at the third annual Offshore Energy and Storage conference in Malta.

—The European Union continues to push for sound stewardship of Arctic waters, participating last week in the second round of international talks that aim to prevent unregulated fisheries in the Arctic high seas. The meeting took place between 6 and 8 July in Iqaluit, Province of Nunavut, Canada.
