Romania has officially kick-started funding under the EU's European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) for the period up to 2020. The launch of the Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Operational Programme 2014-2020 (POPAM) took place on 21 April in the city of Tulcea in the Danube delta.

EU Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Karmenu Vella, was at the Slovenian coast today, inaugurating landing facilities financed by the European Fisheries Fund. The visit also provided an opportunity to meet the Slovenian minister responsible for fisheries, Mr Dejan Židan, and to talk to representatives of the local fishing sector.

Fisheries, aquaculture and maritime projects in the UK are one step closer to receiving support from the EU's European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF), following the official EMFF launch event in Poole this week. The UK is set to receive €243 million of EU funds for the period 2014-2020.

The European Commission published a Communication setting out how the money available under the EU's five European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) will be spent in the period 2014-2020. The funds include the European Regional Development Fund, the European Social Fund, the Cohesion Fund, the EU Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) and the Youth Employment Initiative.
