European Parliament votes for better maritime spatial planning
(18/12/2013) The European Parliament voted to support the Commission's proposal for a Directive on Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) and Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) - a cornerstone policy of the EU's Blue Growth agenda.
With the Council agreeing on general approach earlier this week, discussions between the two institutions can now start in view of the final adoption of this legislation.
The aim of the Commission's proposal is to help EU Member States address the uncoordinated use of marine and coastal areas and help clarify the uncertainties on access to the maritime space and multiple pressures on the environment, in particular by improving cross-border cooperation.

Lifejackets : saving lives
"I was only able to swim five or ten metres or so, and even then the wind and swell were washing me away from the shore. The boat went down so quickly, and I was so relieved to find the lifejacket doing exactly what I was told it would do".
