Commission calls on industry and European standardisation organisations to speed up the development of a common European sign for RFID

(05/10/2010) The European Commission obtained a positive response from the main stakeholders in the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) sector to finalize and standardize the design of the common European RFID sign according to RFID Recommendation. On the 30 September in Brussels, 12 experts in RFID have agreed to consider the ISO/IEC 29160 RFID Emblem together with the minimum mandatory text information mentioned in the RFID Recommendation as a common European RFID sign. They also have developed a roadmap towards a European standard and sketched out conformance requirements with respect to how and where the sign is intended to be used, demarcating mandatory and optional elements, depending on the different applications and/or sectors.
