(23/04/2013) The Digital Champion for Malta, Antonio Ghio, explained his priorities for 2013.
"My first priority is the Introduction of specific digital rights within our own Constitution in order to recognise the importance of internet", explained Mr Ghio. He believes the Internet is an essential tool, "not only for our human rights, but it is an enabler, a tool of empowerment for our citizens and enterprises".
As for the challenges that Malta is facing in the sector, Antonio Ghio said: "Firstly, we need political consensus for the legislative changes. Then it is crucial to educate the people and to recognise the potential of internet for a small state like Malta".
Antonio Ghio was appointed Digital Champion for Malta at the end of 2012, replacing Phillip Micallef. Mr. Ghio is Non-Executive Chairman of Malta Communications Authority.
