What is the EU problem? Lack of consumer trust
Today, consumers do not entirely trust cyberspace. Consequently, they are often afraid to take advantage of online services. Consumers will not shop online if they feel their rights are not protected.
Why is EU action needed? To develop the Digital Single Market
A list of online rights and principles will be an important tool for inspiring trust and confidence among consumers in order to promote greater use of online services. Encouraging consumers to conduct more activity online will contribute to the virtuous cycle of the digital economy, the results of which in terms of growth, jobs and innovation would be largely self-reinforcing.
What will the European Commission do?
In 2012:
- Launch the new Code and raise awareness and encourage the use of the Code by online consumers.
This action is closely related to actions 9, 13, 14, 15 and 61 which also focus on consumers' rights online.
