No change to telecoms and internet governance - EU Member States amongst dozens not signing proposed new International Telecommunications Regulations (ITR) Treaty, remain 100% committed to open internet

(14 December 2012) Delegates from the 193 member countries of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) have concluded the "World Conference on International Telecommunications" (WCIT) conference in Dubai. Negotiations to review the International Telecommunications Regulations (ITRs) failed to reach consensus agreement.

Copyright: Commission urges industry to deliver innovative solutions for greater access to online content

(18 December 2012) The European Commission has today adopted a Communication which sets out parallel tracks of action to be undertaken during this Commission's term of office to ensure that the EU's copyright framework stays fit for purpose in the digital environment. It follows the Commission's orientation debate on content in the digital economy held on 5 December 2012 on the initiative of Commission President José Manuel Barroso.

Digital "to-do" list: new digital priorities for 2013-2014

(18 December 2012) The European Commission has adopted seven new priorities for the digital economy and society.

Internet access and use in 2012 More than half of internet users post messages to social media… …and over 60% read news online

(18 December 2012) Internet access and use is widespread amongst the EU population. In the EU27, more than three quarters of households had access to the internet in 2012, compared with just under half in 2006. The proportion of households who have a broadband internet connection has increased more significantly. In 2012, 72% of EU27 households had access to the internet via a broadband connection, compared with 30% in 2006.

ICT Call 11 Information Day

The next call for proposals of technology-enhanced learning research projects is ICT Call 11 closes on 16 April 2013. The European Commission is organising this Information day specifically dedicated to the technology-enhanced learning work programme. This event is intended for stakeholders interested in submitting research project proposals. It aims to help participants understand the work programme and criteria for the evaluation of proposals, facilitate the sharing of ideas and experiences, and meet potential partners for project consortia.

Information Day on Call 7 of the CIP ICT Policy Support Programme

This event addresses stakeholders interested in submitting project proposals for the 7th Call for Proposals of the CIP ICT Policy Support Programme. Call 7 is expected to be published on 22 December 2012 and the relevant documents related to it will be available on the Participant Portal on the same day.
