FET Flagships interim evaluation: the best is yet to come
In February the European Commission will kick off the interim evaluation of the two FET Flagships, Graphene and the Human Brain Project (HBP). A panel of high-level experts will evaluate and analyse the capability of the Flagships in delivering their long long-term objectives. The outcome of the evaluation panel will help to fine-tune the current implementation of the 2 Flagships, their governance model and pave the way for future FET Flagships.
Artists wanted for collaboration with Future and Emerging Technologies projects
The Future Emerging Art and Technology (FEAT) project envisages an innovative "cultural exchange" by placing artists within different ongoing Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) projects.
Graphene Flagship project launches second Expression of Interest
The Graphene Flagship's overriding goal is to take graphene, related layered materials and hybrid systems from a state of raw potential to a point where they can revolutionise multiple industries. The Flagship is looking for new industrial partners that bring in specific industrial and technology transfer competences or capabilities that complement the present Flagship consortium. Call topics are on "Magnetic sensors" and "Functional Foams and Coatings". Deadline 22 Feb 2016.
Pre-announcement of FET consultation for Work Programme 2018-2019
In February 2016, the European Commission will launch a public consultation to gather your ideas on what tomorrow's Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) programme should look like. Be ready to share your views and help identify the themes of tomorrow's FET programme (FET proactive and FET Flagships).
FET Funding Opportunities
FET Proactive funding opportunities – first calls in 2016
In the FET Work Programme for 2016-2017, the FET Proactive call "Boosting emerging technologies" consists of 3 topics: "Emerging themes and communities"; "FET ERANET Cofund in Quantum Technologies" (both with a deadline in April 2016), and "FET ERANET Cofund" (deadline in January 2017). There is also a dedicated call for proposals on High Performance Computing (the first topic for this has a deadline in September 2016).
FET Open funding opportunities in 2016
FET Open continues to foster early-stage research for radically new technological possibilities. It supports promising novel ideas from all technological areas without prescribing any theme. Funding is available for Research and Innovation Actions as well as for Coordination and Support Actions. Two topics are currently open.

ConCreTe project: mimicking, modelling and enhancing human creativity with a computer
The ability to create and to be creative is a fundamental feature defining us as humankind. But what are the mechanisms behind human creativity, and how can they be applied in artificial intelligence? The group of scientists from the Future and Emerging Technologies Project ConCreTe (Concept Creation Technology) sheds a new light on this so far unexplored topic.
Workshop reports
Report: US - EU Workshop on 2D Layered Materials and Devices
This workshop brought together leading scientists from Europe and the United States, working on graphene and beyond graphene 2D materials and devices. It aimed to identify key research challenges and explore how future collaborations can be promoted. The report from the workshop documents these outcomes and goes into detail on how research in the two continents complements each other, and what concrete steps can be taken to create mutual benefits for the ongoing research programmes.
