Conclusions of the Japan-EU Policy Forum on Silver ICT of 3 December 2013

(17/12/2013) The issues on ageing society are already a top priority on the national agendas of Japan and the EU. ICT-based innovation can play a key role in addressing this challenge and help to create major opportunities for citizens and industry.

EU-Japan cooperation can bring major advantages and essential contributions for the solution of global ageing issues.

The workshop highlighted a number of concrete cases for cooperation including:

  • Service robotics for independent living (Horizon2020)
  • Open software platforms for service integration
  • Large scale ICT pilots on innovative services for ageing well (Horizon 2020)
  • Large scale data sharing and analysis (Horizon2020, EIP-AHA)
  • R&D&I roadmaps and strategic agendas

The workshop drew up the following recommendations as next steps:

  • A dedicated Horizon2020 Information day in Japan
  • An EU-Japan portal with information about relevant EU-JP initiatives
  • Joint workshops and researcher exchange scheme
  • Planning for possible future strategic cooperation
