(04/07/2013) Today 4 July 2013, the lift-off of the Cloud-for-Europe initiative was formally announced in Tallinn, Estonia, in the presence of its major stakeholders, President Ilves of Estonia and VP Kroes of the European Commission.

Cloud-for-Europe is a major cloud computing initiative driven by committed public sector organisations from Member States and Associated Countries. C4E empowers the European public sector to get prepared for procuring secure, cost-effective, reliable, performing and trustworthy cloud services while avoiding the risk of lock-in.

The initiative is driven by organisations from 11 European countries and it aims at direct involvement of IT and telecom industry, including SMEs, in order to jointly shape a European cloud computing market to the benefit of European users, suppliers and the citizen at large. It is the flagship European cloud implementation action and a major stepping-stone towards a digital single market for IT services in the cloud.
