Task Force for Co-ordination of Media Affairs

Consultation on future policy orientations for publishing

Following the transfer of responsibility for the publishing industry to DG Information Society and Media, this 2005 consultation provided a first opportunity for stakeholders to comment on underlying issues that affect the competitiveness of this important industry which employs nearly 750,000 jobs across the EU and contributes around 0.5% of EU GDP. The questions contained in the consultation also permitted responses on issues lying beyond the scope of the paper, notably content diversity, convergence and rules for advertising that affect publishers. Inputs received are assisting DG Information Society and Media as it reflects on future policy orientations for the sector.
