17 years after the introduction of the first MEDIA programme to support the European audiovisual industry, the European Commission has launched a  Preparatory action "MEDIA International" in order to reflect all the opportunities and challenges of globalisation.
This preparatory action provides the opportunity to test a further avenue for structuring and strengthening relations and networks between EU and third countries' professionals in the audiovisual sector, for the mutual benefit of the European industry and the third countries involved. The actions that are envisaged are: Continuous Training, Promotion of cinematographic works and the support of Cinema Networks.
On this basis the Commission intends to develop a proposal for a new programme, possibly to be called "MEDIA MUNDUS". The new programme would represent a commitment to effective multilateralism and to engage with global partners, to the mutual benefit of the audiovisual sectors.

This public hearing provided an opportunity for all professionals from Europe and elsewhere in the world, to debate issues and share opinions on action lines to be proposed in a possible MEDIA MUNDUS programme.
