IST EVENT 2006 :: Networking
Networking Sessions and Workshops @ IST 2006
The Networking Sessions and Workshops at IST 2006 provide an open forum for exchanging views and ideas on how to address these challenges. Following almost 3000 comments via this website, the final programme has now been published. Comments are still welcome.

What, How, When?
"topic, format and content proposed and defined by stakeholders ..."
What Are They? While networking sessions provide a meeting place for communities that possibly never worked together before, workshops present the state-of-the-art in a domain and provide a platform for knowledge exchange and learning (more on the difference here).
Both complement the IST 2006 conference and exhibition, bringing together people interested in a specific topic to discuss project ideas, research activities or partnerships. They are less formal discussion groups than the official conference sessions, encouraging active participation and lateral thinking. They are open to everybody who wishes to attend.
"... almost 3000 comments and suggestions received to date ..."
How Were They Developed? Around 300 proposals were first submitted by the research communities and other stakeholders through a Call for Proposals on this site, which closed on 15 June 2006. A subset were then published on this site for comments. Almost 3000 comments and suggestions were received, helping the Organising Committee organisers choose the final programme. Comments are still more than welcome.
Their topic, format and content have therefore been proposed and defined by the stakeholders - the people organising and attending the session itself.
When? The final list of selected Networking Sessions and Workshops was published on 22 September 2006. The Networking Sessions and Workshops will take place during all three days of the IST2006 event - on 21, 22 and 23 November 2006.
In the meantime, the website visitors can continue making comments, which will help make each session and workshop more effective on the day.
Have Your Say
Logged-in site visitors are able to use the site's 'Express an Opinion' function to show their interest in or comment on the networking events in one of three ways:
- suggest a contribution - your idea will be forwarded to the session or workshop coordinator. If successful, you will be able to develop it further by adding documents;
- comment and indicate your intention to attend;
- comment on the session or workshop without attending the session (although you still can, of course).
Note:
- you need to be logged in to the site when you Express an Opinion. If you are not logged in, you will be sent to a Login Page first;
- If you cannot log in because you have not yet Registered, follow the 'Register Now' link on the Login Page. Once you have registered, you will be able to access all this site's services (see How Do I Get Involved?);
- Please note that the data marked 'Public' on all forms will be published on the site.
What Happens Next?
The official IST 2006 Guide for Networking Sessions and Workshops will be published by 15 October 2006.
