Three Competitions @ IST 2006

The IST 2006 closing ceremony on 23rd November 2006 featured three awards presented by Mr Matti Vanhanen, the Prime Minister of Finland:

Best Information Society Practices in Finland

The Finnish Government's aim is to increase public awareness of the Best Information Society Practices that are in use throughout Finland. The objective is to encourage the wider application of these practices and encourage innovation. The competition closed on 16th June 2006. The finalists will be selected by a jury and the prizes will total €35,000.

Best IST Project Website Award, sponsored by

The European Commission aims to encourage IST projects to improve their websites through the Best IST Project Website Award, sponsored by Nokia. This contest is open to  the 900 plus projects funded under the current Information Society Technologies Programme within the EU’s Sixth Framework Programme for research and development. The objective is to enhance the content and visibility of these websites as well as publicising their activities.  IST Projects can enrol their websites for the contest which will then be voted and ranked by the wider Internet community. A jury will select three finalists amongst the highest ranked sites and the winning prize is €10,000, sponsored by Nokia. More information ...

Best Exhibit Award, sponsored by

The aim of the Best Exhibit Award is to encourage exhibitors to improve their exhibits and promote their stands within the Exhibition. The objective is to engage the visitors through explaining the stand and interacting with the demonstrations. This contest is only open to the research and technology stands within the IST2006 Exhibition. Visitors can vote for their favourite exhibits. A jury will select three finalists amongst the most popular exhibits and the winning prize is €10,000, sponsored by Nokia.
