Your privacy rights as a subscriber to electronic services ("eServices")
E-services are essentially personalised services supplied through a website. To use the services, basic registration data is required from subscribers. (See further: General Europa policy: What is an e-Service?)
Information Society website e-services:
Minimum data required from subscribers:
- Your email address: is obviously necessary for you to receive emailed content
- Username and password: essential to allow you to 'edit your profile', change the details of your subscription requirements, unsubscribe, etc. You are free to choose any user name or password, so this information does not identify you personally.
Additional optional Information:
- To personalise your subscription: indicate themes of interest to you, frequency of news updates you wish to receive, desired email format, etc.;
- Other purely optional information, such as your name, title, occupation, country, etc. allows us to better target our most frequent users.
Technical information
- The collection of subscription requests is logged within a database;
- The e-mail address of the subscriber is the only personal information written in the logs, and may possibly used to trace the history of a subscription in case of errors.
- Log records older than six months are removed from the system.
- Web traffic analysis cookies: We use Google Analytics to analyze general patterns of traffic to this website. Google Analytics uses “cookies”, which are text files placed on your computer. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. You may refuse the use of cookies if you wish. (See further: : Legal notices: Google Analytics)
Who has access to your information?
- The data collected in this way is only for used by managers of the electronic services in question.
- The data are not transmitted or published by us.
- Only general statistics which do not contain personal data will be shared with other European Institutions.
How can you verify, modify or delete your profile?
- Use the "Edit Profile form. If you delete your registration data, you will no be able to benefit from any e-Services.
How long do we keep your data?
- User data are kept in the database until the user unsubscribes using the Edit Profile form.
- The data are then kept for a period of six months to allow for corrective actions in case of an unsubscribe action occur by error, but also to allow the protection of users from abusive use of their e-mail address by third parties.
- After this delay, all data allowing the identification of the person (name and e-mail address) will be removed. Only statistical information, without personal data, will be retained in the database.
