On the internet I sometimes come across websites with illegal or harmful content. I have children who spend considerable time online, what can I do about it?
Answer: As a preventive measure you could use parental control software.
If you come across a website or activity on the internet you suspect might be illegal and/or harmful, don't ignore it - report it to your national hotline. The INHOPE network of hotlines focuses on the fight against illegal content on the internet, in particular anything relating to the sexual abuse of children.
INHOPE hotlines will pass on your report to the appropriate authority: the police or another hotline if the site/material is hosted in another country in the network.
You can easily access all INHOPE hotlines through the INHOPE website.
If your country is not listed, but you think you know where the offending website is hosted, report it to the hotline in that country instead. Or report it to any of the other hotlines.
Be smart online:
- Talk to you children and make sure they are aware of and able to identify dangers on the internet.
- Use parental control software, it is widely available in the market.
