The event is open to all and is free of charge!
Do I have to be registered to IST 2006 to register for Köln 2007?
No.
However, it's easier for everyone who registered to the IST 2006 website to register to Köln 2007, because they already have an Information Society Portal Events Account.
Simply log in using your IST 2006 username and password, and your IST 2006 Profile (address, interests, photo - see Raise Your Profile for more) will be transferred across automatically.
Note: If you cannot remember your username and/or password, the log in page provides a Forgot Your Password? function.
I didn't sign up to IST 2006 - how do I register?

Note that you will be creating your Information Society Portal Events Account, which you will be able to use to easily sign up to other events organised by DG Information Society & Media.
The registration form says that my email address or login are already registered! What's going on?
If, when you register to Köln 2007, the form recognises your login name or your email address, it's because you already have an Information Society Portal Events Account. There are two possible explanations for this:
-
You registered to the IST 2006 website: in which case, simply log on using your IST 2006 username and password (see above);
-
You have already registered for Köln 2007 (or a colleague registered you in on your behalf). In this case, just log in and check your registration status.
-
Note: the log in page features a Forgot Your Password? function
-
How do I make sure I am registered?
You registered to Köln 2007 event but you are not sure it worked? As of 9 January, your 'My Event' page displays your registration status. Just log in and check.
How do I Get the Most out of it?
Köln 2007 is essentially a networking operation, so you will get the most out of it if you:
Publish a
rich Public Profile | Add the "Email Me" feature
to it |
Actively Comment on networking sessions
Raise Your Profile
"tell site visitors about yourself, your organisation and your interests..."
When you register, you will have the option of publishing your Köln 2007 Profile. You can use the resulting Public Köln 2007 Profile to tell site visitors about yourself, your organisation and your interests in the field of European ICT research. You can upload links to your websites, some documents for visitors to download and a photo so people will be able to recognise you at the event.
More about your Public Profile:
- It does not include your email address
- It is
essential if you want to use this site's networking facilities,
which allow you:
- to contact other delegates - and be contacted by them - before the event, without publishing your email address (see What is the "Email Me" function?, below)
- to post comments on the various networking sessions (see How do I add Comments?, below)
- It will appear in the Browse People menus and alongside every comment you make on a networking page, and will automatically link to all your comments (see How do I add Comments?, below).
- You can Publish and Edit it at any time: If you chose to not publish your Profile when you registered, for example, just click on 'My Event' to log in and edit it.
What is the "Email Me" function?
"Contact each other without displaying your email address"
What is it? The "Email Me" feature went live on 10 January. All delegates who add this feature to their Public Profile will be able to contact each other before the event to - for example - suggest a meeting. You therefore cannot use this feature to contact delegates unless you activate this feature yourself, allowing them to contact you.
The following anti-spam measures are in place:
- Your email address will not be published on-line
- Instead, users will need to log in and fill in a form. You will receive their message by email, and will thus only give the sender your email address if you choose to reply
- You will be able to report unsuitable emails. If we judge a user to have mis-used this feature, we will prevent them from using it again.
- Note that the above information is included in each email, and that other anti-spam measures are being considered. If they are added, you will be informed.
How do I activate "Email Me"? Simply check the relevant box on the registration form, and make sure you have a Public Profile - both checkboxes are at the bottom of the form. If you registered before 10 January, simply log in to edit your profile and check the box.
How do I Add Comments?
"participants can see at a glance where your interests lie and what your opinions are..."
Why Comment? The 'Add a Comment' link at the bottom of each networking page allows you to suggest ideas for discussion, announce if and when you will be there, and more. We hope that the conversation which will develop online before the event will help you make the most of your time on the day. You can also tell us whether you intend to attend each networking sessions, which will help us organise the event.
What Will Happen? Your comment will appear immediately on the networking page. It will include a link to your Public Köln 2007 Profile, so people interested in your comment can find out more about you (see Raise Your Profile, above). Note that your Profile will also link to all of your comments across the site, so other participants can see at a glance where your interests lie and what your opinions are.
So how do I Add A Comment? To use the 'Intend to Attend' and 'Add a Comment' features, you need to have registered to attend the event, be logged in to the site, and you must have a Public Köln 2007 Profile. See Registration, above.
Note that:
-
if you are logged in but do not have a Public Profile, you will see a "Publish my Profile" link.
-
Note: if you use this link you will publish your profile, so don't forget to add some information to it (see Raise Your Profile, above), and opt in to the "Email Me" feature (see What is the "Email Me" function?, above) to maximise your networking;
-
-
if you are logged in but have not yet registered to attend Köln 2007, you will see a "register to Köln 2007" link.
-
Finally, if you haven't logged in, you'll see a link to the log in page, from which you can log in (obviously), register (if you haven't already done so) or get your password (if you've forgotten it).
Is it possible to have a stand? or to make a presentation? or to conduct a panel? or to organize a parallel event?

- No specific booths will be provided to the exclusive use to the participants
- No parallel event is possible, there will be no facility at the disposal of the participants
- In addition to the networking booths, participants will be able to meet each other in large areas, snack bars and cafeterias
- Apart from meeting each other, researchers will be able to meet
Commission Staff bilaterally to discuss such issues as:
• the scope and objectives of the work programme
• the instruments
• contracts under FP 7
• rules for participation and the general working of the programme
- Booths on horizontal activities and general information: FP7-ICT info-booth, Capacities programme, CORDIS, INCO, …
- There are no structured sessions nor panels
- Project ideas will presented on the website, should they be posted in the comments section of the selected objective
