VIVIANE REDING, European Commissioner for the Information Society
and Media Commissioner Reding worked as a journalist for the Luxemburger Wort (1978-1999) and was President of the Luxembourg Union of Journalists for 12 years. Her political career began in 1979 as a member of the Luxembourg Parliament and included stints as councilor for the city of Esch-sur-Alzettecity, Vice-president of PCS (Parti Chrétien-Social) and ten years as an MEP before joining the European Commission in 1999 as Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth, Media and Sport. She holds many distinctions, including the Robert Schuman Medal in 2004 and a national Order of the French Legion of Honour in 2005. See further: Viviane Reding website |
