e-Inclusion Lisbon 2007: Programme & Exhibition
Ministerial Debate on e-Inclusion Policy
Event and
exhibition, 2–3 December 2007
Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon, Portugal
Technology is creating new opportunities for more than 60% of Europe's population, connecting
them to better paid jobs, instant information, new forms of communication and
social interaction, community infrastructures, government services, consumer
power and convenience. But for 30-40% of the population those benefits remain
firmly out of reach - they are missing out on the opportunities, choices,
savings and services that mobile devices, computers and the internet provide,
and that other people consider a normal and integral part of their everyday
lives.
“Inclusion is a cornerstone of the EU policy in the information society”
That's why, addressing this e-Inclusion challenge is a key political
priority for Europe today, and has never been more relevant. By including more
people in our economy and society there is a triple win:
better life for individuals,
reduced costs for society and
increased economic and business opportunities
This event, which took place in the Centro Cultural de Belém, Lisbon, and organised in conjunction with the Portuguese Presidency of the European Council, provided a platform for debate on crucial policy issues related to e-Inclusion and the accompanying exhibition will showcase some of the best examples of e-Inclusion research projects in Europe along with examples of the leading technology available on the market.
