VIENNA 2008 :: Interactive theater

Interactive Theater

'Meet Martha and Joe', an elderly couple living in the smart home or help 'the lady who left her glasses in the taxi' catch her plane! Two Interactive Theatre plays that reveal in a witty way how ICTs can help in finding your way... or get in the way...

The two plays, one to portray the bright sides and the shadier sides of "Independent Living with ICT" and the other one to explain what "e-Accessibility" really means will be delivered by professional actors in real life scenarios.

Such a method is known as an Interactive Theatre concept and has proven to be a highly effective tool to raise awareness and achieve better understanding of the opportunities and challenges offered by technologies, as it requires direct and active engagement of the audience. It has been used with success in sessions with the engineers designing products and services for the audiences they don't represent themselves in order to learn their needs.

Meet Martha and Joe…

The "Independent Living" theme will feature an elderly couple living in the smart home. Real actors will present several everyday situations to reveal how ICTs assist daily life. Their performance will be followed by an interactive session of questions from the audience. The concepts and the conclusion are 'discovered' by the audience through an engaging, "brain storming" session.

I left my glasses in the taxi!

The "eAccessibility" theme will showcase a woman who has left her reading glasses in a taxi while travelling to the airport. As a consequence of this mishap she will find herself to suddenly become as if visually impaired. Can she negotiate the maze of the airport and board her plane on time? What has ICT to do with this?
